Stanford University's Folding@home project uses distributed computing to analyze the folding of proteins and research their role in many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes.

It's easy, and you can infuriate the other nerds with the might of your rig's number crunching power be an hero to all humankind without lifting a finger. All you need to do is run the software in the background. Whatever CPU power you don't need goes to good use, and the software gives the CPU up easily when you need it. Compete against each other and against other teams, all for a great cause.

[edit] How to Join

  1. Download the software (Windows, Linux, OS X) and choose a user name. Use your Uncyclopedia name or some variation, so we can recognize you from the site.
  2. Install and configure with your user name and the Uncyclopedia team number, which is 47797.
  3. Run it and forget about it. Folding an individual work unit (WU) can take hours or days, depending on your computer and the size of the work unit.

Members may also opt to:

  • Include a F@H link in their signature like [[Uncyclopedia:Folding@home|F@H]]
  • Add the {{F@HUser}} (bluegrey) and the {{F@Hbox|x}} (where 'x' = your points contributed) Babel-type templates to their User Page. {{F@HUserbox}} (red) is New!

I got a PS3 and I am currently folding on the network for Uncyclopedia at a rate almost 6 times that of a normal computer. IF YOU HAVE A PS3 MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD THE SYSTEM UPDATE AND HELP UNCYCLOPEDIA RAISE THE RANKS! I first saw this software on the PS3. I had three computers working with F@H, but one of them wasn't mine and I had to give it back. I have a tar.bz2 of the f@h directory, do you know of any way I could use the work (it was at 20% I think) and not lose that protein? --W2bh 13:13, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

I say we either add another template to the top of the Main Page, put something in the site notice for a bit, or add F@H to the Community toolbar. I realize it's not the Village Dump, but it sure includes alot more community then the Community portal... If we put something on the Main Page, or in the sitenotice, it'd just be for like a day... [edit] Comically Large Times?

It's telling me 208 days of constant running. On my old computer (and I mean old - parts from at least 1996, if not earlier) it would be about a week of constant running. Is there something wrong? Comp's vitals available if needed. --RoboJesus 02:02, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

I've had WU's that would have ended in a little under 3 years, if I was to believe the estimates... So yeah, that happens once in a while... Usually it's when the WU has just finished (down)loading, but I've known those crazy estimates to stick around for a few hours... Honestly? No idea... I've never known anyone switching teams... Common sense would tell me that the points you made whilst folding for team X will stay with team X, and so once you join team Y, you start from scratch on team Y's statistics page. But really, I'm not sure about that at all.
Also, please change your nickname in your preferences to the following:
{{SUBST:nosubst|User:Alexjohnc3/sig}}
